A well thought out LEAP program provides students with a more
holistic education. A LEAP program focuses on the unique developmental
needs of adolescence that traditional academic programs alone
cannot address. Learning empathy for one's community, strengthening
one's character, and recognizing one's spiritual self are acute
needs for young people growing up in modern society. The willingness
to challenge oneself, the courage to overcome adversity, the
joy of successfully conquering a perceived risk, and the stimulation
of a wider curiosity about the world will have beneficial ripple
effects within your school's academic environment. An outdoor
education program such as LEAP can improve communication between
teachers and students, create a more supportive academic environment,
and improve personal and group self-esteem.
These results
are achieved by a synthesis of your academic goals and the unique
opportunities that our programs have to offer. LEAP programs
use skill-based activities to increase self-esteem and self-confidence,
facilitate problem-solving, or improve teamwork. During each
program, your participants will be organized into smaller groups
that will rotate through a number of different activities in
which they will learn, play and overcome challenges.
To help
design a program that will be most beneficial for your group,
we have listed several themes around which you may use as a
starting point.

Program
Themes:
- Adventure
Focus
The
focus of these programs is on personal achievement through
adventure activities. Basic
skills and techniques are introduced as well as safety, teamwork,
and respect for the activity and its environment. This is
a popular theme because it combines adventure with personal
and group learning. Students may participate in different
adventure activities throughout the program.
- Team
Building with Group Initiatives
and Ropes Course
This
program works well for groups that are looking to create a
bonding experience. Our staff will present challenging activities
that will require every person's involvement to solve.
Processing these experiences can quickly explore new realms
and roles that your groups may not have previously explored.
- Character
Development Program
All
of our programs already integrate Character Development components.
However, if your school is looking for a more intensified
character program, this is it. We promote trustworthiness,
respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship
by using this specific program design.
- Activity
Specific
This program allows an individual and group to explore particular
activities. Each small group of students will focus on one
adventure activity for the
duration of the program. Using a skill progression, the students
improve self-confidence by achieving basic goals and working
towards more difficult ones. Multi-day backpacking
and climbing trips are popular
with this theme.
- Custom
Program
Even though all of our programs are customized to meet your
needs, this avenue allows you to combine themes individual
to your group or to do something entirely different than our
above suggestions. Your only limit is your imagination and
time.
