It sure was fun waking up to a whole new group of excited boys! I love the mornings up here on the mountain. The nice cool air, and the calm. Once that bell rings, it is off and running. I queried some boys today. They were up pretty early, some mentioned 6:30 am! I am not surprised. The excitement for a whole new day at High Rocks is hard to keep down.
Once everyone figured out their first cabin clean-up and found all their masks, it was up to the dining hall for some scratch-made doughnuts! What?!? I sure was excited to see these little wonders in the proofer this morning when I came up for my cup of coffee! they were a big hit!
After breakfast, we headed down for our first assembly. I love assembly; especially with this group! We sang mostly all motion songs. The “motion song” is a key item to set you straight for the day. First, it’s important to warm up for the day. Two, you can’t be cool doing a motion song. Everyone looks silly. There goes the cool card out the window. Nothing beats seeing a bunch of boys getting all goofy, bouncing around, and singing some of the best camp songs. After some motion songs, our cabin inspector checked to let us know how we did with our cabin clean-up. After inspections were announced, Sprucepine II was the clear winner of the COD (Cabin of the Day) Trophy. Stay tuned to see how everyone works out on this important part of our day.
Today’s Menu:
Breakfast: Scratch-made glazed doughnuts, scrambled eggs, link sausage, oatmeal, berries with or without yogurt, sliced apples, and assorted cereals
Lunch: Taco Day: ground beef or black beans with or without corn chips or tortillas, lettuce, tomato, onion, house-made guacamole and pico, cilantro, lime, salsa, and sour cream. Tossed salad and croutons.
Dinner: House-made pizza, pita chips and artichoke dip, broccoli salad (the one with the bacon 😊), tossed salad, cake.
The morning and afternoon were filled with activity rotations. The boys learned a little more about canoeing, made some tie-dyes, and started their first rounds over at shooting sports. The whole building of Sprucepine spent the morning on the high ropes course.
Our 5 pm choice period on the lake was “thundered out.” No worries, we spent some time over in the gaga pit and the soccer field. It was a great time! We will hit the lake again tomorrow.
Tonight, the guys spent the evening with some slip and slide fun! The whole group headed down to the pavilion to enjoy some trips down the slip and slide, then wrapped up with an ice cream cone for a snack!
The boys are having a blast! Tune in tomorrow for more!
