Just Days to Go

It was another great weather day at High Rocks!  Warm, sunny, with just a touch of breeze all day long!  I enjoy it when the staff help create the vibe around High Rocks. One group this session is trying to spearhead another “them day” here at camp. Several of the guys have come up with a ‘Merica Monday theme, complete with lots of USA pride and a middle America sort of slant. If you do a Google search on the term there is a lot to learn, and see :). There is one particular image tonight that stands out, but you will see a fair bit of red, white, and blue out there. Anyhow, it all seems to be in good camp fun. Maybe not in good style, but certainly in good fun. Who knows, it could catch on..?

If you do not see your son, it is likely he is out on a trip today.  We had several trips out the door this morning.  The paddling crew headed out to the Chattooga River down in South Carolina. The Chattooga is a wonderful river with a Wild and Scenic designation.  Among other things it means that ¼ mile on either side of the river is undeveloped, preserving the water clarity and the wilderness experience.  The climbing two-day is heading out to Low Pisgah.  This is a section of Pisgah National Forest that sits at a lower elevation of 2-2200 feet, where most of the rivers run through.  The hikers are heading out for a two-day in High Pisgah. This is the section of Pisgah National Forest that sits near the Blue Ridge Parkway with elevations of 3-5000 feet.  Pisgah National Forest has more than 600,000 acres of places to play! Finally, the mountain bikers had a morning trip to Dupont State Forest our neighboring forest with miles of world-class mountain bike trails and 10,000 acres of land.

This really is a great time in the session to see the rewards the boys have gained in their activities.  I am really impressed with the skills these boys have picked up. Paddling a canoe is no small feat.  Not only do you have to figure out how all this paddle, boat, and buoyancy work together, but you also need to learn to communicate and work with another person!  It is truly an art and science wrapped into one.  I enjoy watching these guys put it all together and look good doing it!

Also, if you have not been on our Facebook or Instagram Page, then you are missing out on some fun posts and videos.  Check it out and be sure to follow us! Speaking of videos, we will post another highlight-reel tomorrow night. We are certainly having a blast!

Your boys sure do make High Rocks a great place. We like to have more boys that are just like your sons. Remember, if you have any family friends in the area, the summer is the best time to see camp. Have them come by High Rocks to see it in action.   Send them to our tour page and we will take it from there.  We love to show off High Rocks!  Here is a link to the Tour Page. Only three full days of camp left!  Have a great night!
