Tripping By The Numbers

Camp High Rocks has a rich history and legendary tales of epic trips down swift rivers, rugged overnight backpacking experiences, challenging climbs, and mighty mountain biking descents. In the midst of summer, each morning, camp rings with the voices and bustle of eager individuals waiting to capitalize on the wild adventures that await them. Campers are preparing to go out for the day, to explore and learn. Adventure at camp can mean something different for each individual camper and staff member. Whether it be paddling the wild and scenic Chattooga River, climbing Looking Glass, going for a romp on Black Balsam, shredding Ridgeline, or splashing in the lake, adventure is truly provided throughout each day. We strive tirelessly to instill a passion for the outdoors through adventure.

By The Numbers

Our summer stats really highlight how often we like to, “get after it” and play here, at camp. Our climbing program accumulated around 8,000 climbs on the tower over the summer. Canoeing was able to spend over 26 days on local rivers, not including all the lake paddling! Mountain Biking often finds themselves putting up big numbers, the bike squad was able to log around 250 miles riding and over 300 hours on a bike! Hiking consistently leads the adventure program with steps taken during the summer and evenings spent under the stars. Each of our adventure programs here offer unique opportunities; however, they all share the common goal of providing life-long memories and skills.

Why all this adventure though? High Rocks feels passionately that lessons learned from adventures here at camp are directly applicable to the outside world. Adversity is guaranteed here, and we are equipping our young men with the skills to not only welcome adversity, but to face challenges with bravery.

Currently, here in the office, we find ourselves stomping around in the same places that our campers have been, and will continue to go. As we stomp around in the leaves, we too are planning fun days out hiking and biking in Dupont, paddling on the lake and local rivers, and getting some good views climbing in Pisgah. The land around High Rocks holds countless adventures!
