Chadwick’s Next Adventure

As we look forward to another season ahead and an exciting 2025, we are sad to say goodbye to Chadwick Young as he moves on to new opportunities.

Chadwick first came to High Rocks in the summer of 2018 by way of Brevard College. As a cabin counselor and mountain bike instructor, Chadwick quickly got the boys hooked on his knowledge, wit, and playful ways.  After another summer and a little COVID chaos, Chadwick started full-time with us in 2021.  He served as Program Director for the next two summers, and then Director of Adventure Programs in 2024.

Chadwick’s skillset was immense. He had a solid grasp on all the adventure activities as well as several others. In the off-season, Chadwick could often be found partaking in an outdoor pursuit from paddling, fly-fishing, to mountain biking. Myself and Darby would sneak away from work with Chadwick on beautiful fall afternoons to hit the Dupont trails!  His leadership skills played a key role throughout camp as he helped build and train the staff each year.  He had a real gift in not only teaching and mentoring the campers, but the staff as well.

Chadwick’s True Camp Favorites

While Chadwick enjoyed his time working at camp, he especially loved the camp dogs over the years. You could often find him playing with Tsali or giving Biscuit a run for her money!

My favorite place to see Chadwick was in front of a group of campers.  He really enjoyed teaching these guys and showing new skills.

His current gig is down at Clemson University, where he is helping as an instructor for several outdoor classes and trips.  The proximity to camp makes me hopeful we might still get to see him on a limited basis. (And hopefully a few High Rocks mountain biking rides this off-season!)

As l like to say to most everyone that appears to be moving on from Camp High Rocks for a bit, “Nobody really leaves High Rocks.”  So, I will just say  “We look forward to seeing you soon, Chadwick.”
