We are thrilled to announce that a familiar face is joining our Year-Round Staff at Camp High Rocks. Please join us in welcoming Andy Glas as our new Adventure Programs Director! With years of experience and a deep connection to camp, Andy is perfectly suited to lead our adventure activities into the future.
Andy first arrived at Camp High Rocks in 2008 as a counselor in the climbing program, where he also called the cabin Lakeside home for the summer. His easy humor, distinctive laugh, and serious outdoor skills quickly made him an integral part of our community. From that first summer, Andy’s bond with camp was clear, bringing him back every summer through 2013 and then again in 2019, 2021, 2023 and most recently this past summer.
In Andy’s time at camp, he could be found in a variety of activity areas including climbing, mountain biking, and whitewater paddling. Throughout his years here he has managed (perhaps a first?) to be the head of each of those activities! That feat alone would make Andy a strong candidate to direct our adventure activities, but it wouldn’t encompass his skillset.
Andy’s qualifications extend far beyond camp. After graduating from Georgia Southern University with a degree in Natural Resource Management, he went on to earn a Masters in Education from Southern Adventist University. Andy joined the faculties of North Greenville University and UNC-Asheville with their Outdoor Leadership Departments.
He has also held faculty positions at Landmark Learning and NOLS – Wilderness Medicine where he spent time traveling all over the country teaching outdoor leaders backcountry medical skills.
Interspersed amongst his professional missions, Andy manages to find his way onto every rock, trail, or river that crosses his path. His enthusiasm and curiosity pulls others into the fun, resulting in countless opportunities for those around him to experience vibrant community with just a touch of adrenaline!
As we gear up for the 2025 camp season, we couldn’t be more excited to have Andy leading the charge for our adventure programs. His wealth of experience, love for the outdoors, and commitment to fostering meaningful connections promise an unforgettable summer filled with laughter, organized fun, and thrilling adventures in the mountains.
Please join us in giving Andy Glas a warm High Rocks welcome as he steps into this new role. Here’s to an incredible summer ahead!
