I was super excited to get up to the dining hall this morning. While I typically make it up there fairly early for our daily meeting, I wanted to be sure I caught some of the mini guys coming in from their cabin overnights. As luck would have it, I was even able to catch a few of the boys as they returned from their journey. My favorite part was catching the youngest guys of Hillside make their journey back to their cabin after their cabin overnight at High Rocks. While they looked a little tired and weary, they did not hesitate to tell me about their adventures, the games they played, and even how well they slept. About 20 minutes later after the Hillside boys had made their way to the cabin, our chef Nate Noland came out as he does every day to ring the wake-up bell. The climbing trip was right there to join them after the bell to belt out “Good Morning High Rocks!” It was a great start to the day.
It was another wonderful and adventure-filled day. We had a small group of guys that had earned a two-day trip on the Chattooga River. They will spend two days on this wonderful Wild and Scenic River and sleep just off the banks of the river tonight. I was excited for them.
Rock climbing was out at Cedar Rock in Pisgah National Forest. A great crag with some great climbing. Our swimmers even took off for a tubing trip on a flat section of the French Broad.
Menu:
Breakfast: scratch-made buttermilk biscuits, sausage patties, grits, gravy fruit bar, yogurt, and assorted cereals.
Lunch: Brats and hotdogs, fried pickles, and canned peaches. On the other side of that universe was a “make your own quinoa bowl at the salad bar.” Quinoa, julienned vegetables, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, a special turmeric, and pesto sauces along with lettuce and dressings. As always at lunch, sun butter and jelly. Certainly, plenty of offerings for all tastes.
Dinner: Pork roast with tomato cream sauce, rice, fresh green beans, yeast rolls, salad bar, and chocolate custard for dessert.
Tonight, we enjoyed an all-camp event entitled Woody Wonka. A themed event after the famous movie with A High Rocks twist. Each cabin had to come up with a new confectionary/candy to pitch to a field of “Shark Tank” like investors. It was a ton of fun!
Thanks for tuning in today. We look forward to more fun this weekend!
