Cabin Overnights

It was another great day at Camp High Rocks.  The boys are not even showing any signs of fatigue yet.  It’s coming, but I have been impressed with their stamina.  We rocked right into another day of activity rotations.  The boys are getting to re-visit some activities to pick up where they left off and still see some new activities.

This morning, Foxhollow I and II hit the high r ropes course this morning, while Flattop had some crafts, hike, and shooting sports rotation.  The normal 12:30pm free time was switched up with a gear checkout for tonight’s cabin overnight.  The boys each picked up a backpack and a sleeping pad and then brought it back to the cabin to get packed up during our rest hour.

This afternoon, the boys rotated back to rock climbing at the tower and enjoyed some free swim time down at the lake.  After their activities, the boys headed back to their cabins to load up and get ready for their cabin overnights.

Cabin Overnights

A longstanding tradition at Camp High Rocks, the cabin overnight is an important part of the experience.  The founders wanted to be sure that each boy had at least one overnight camping experience.  The cabin overnight has been going on for nearly as long as High Rocks has been here.  We are very fortunate that we have all the property to make this work.  Out on the 1100-acre property we have five rustic camping shelters that the boys head out to for the night.  So, at 5pm, the boys will meet up on the hill at the dining hall and stage for the night. They will each share the load of getting out to the shelter as they pack up the usual menu of items for pita pizzas, smores, and some additional items.  Their hike is a short distance out to the shelter where they will spend the evening making up their dinner, enjoying some games around the campfire and roasting some smores.  The boys will pack up and hike back in the morning just before breakfast.  There should be some good stories at breakfast.

One more note.  We had some intell that we missed pushing up some pictures on Tuesday afternoon. Those have been pushed up. Be sure to check them out.

Just one full day to go!  We are certainly having a blast and reaching the home stretch now!
