Hiking & Backpacking

The Hiking program at High Rocks offers campers a fun and exciting opportunity to experience the pleasure of self-reliance, discover the natural beauty of our unique region, and develop a skill set for living safely and comfortably in the woods. With over 1,000 acres of property bosting 15+ miles of hiking trails, campers easily jump into adventures right on property.

In all hiking camp activities, we emphasize environmental stewardship as well as the enjoyment of clean air, rushing water, the smoke of a campfire, and a perfectly toasted marshmallow.

Everyone Gets Outside

Although not all campers select the hiking camp activity as one of their five activities, every camper participates in hiking to some degree whether through a cabin overnight or an age-group romp around the lake loop.

Qualified Staff

Our highly qualified staff wields an impressive resume of tripping experience from high alpine ascents in the Andes to the through-hikes of popular trails like the PCT and AT. This wealth of expertise allows us to venture forth from High Rocks on trips to identify birds or wildflowers, master orienteering and navigation, and take extended two-to-five-day backpacking trips in the vast tracts of preserved wilderness that blanket Western NC.

High Rocks is a place for a boy to be himself and also explore things he has never tried. There are so many activities from which to choose. Gavin tried hiking this year for the first time and loved it!
